Fire in Ice - they describe themselves as follows "" Merseyside
self help project run by and for the adult male survivors of childhood abuse,
especially those who have suffered while in residential care. Fire in Ice aims
to enable men who have suffered child abuse and their families to make positive
change in their lives, also aims to make the care experience safe for children
and young people. Fire in Ice offers 1 to 1, group and telephone support in a
friendly empathic environment. We are not social workers, councillors,
psychiatrists or "do gooders", Fire in Ice is made up of ordinary men
who have overcome their abuse and want to help others do the same." See News

links to other sites - recently had an image overhaul - access back copies of
the Gazette
NSPCC A pleasant site to view with vibrant colours - find out all about their
excellent campaign on child abuse
Delia Venables Web Site an excellent source for Lawyers - it gets 90,000 hits
per month! It is an essential starting point for lawyers who want to find links
to any site in this country and abroad. The writer always uses this as a
starting point - it is easier than the search engines. For instance Free
Electronic Legal Aid Forms and a Free hyperlinked version of the CPR were
advertised here. It has saved us £1500
House of Lords Judgments All the judgments of the House are listed in full since 1996 - a good
source - useful especially for the case of Barret v. Enfield B.C. which everyone was waiting for

Reports. Although it does not have a word search facility there is a list of
contents every day to enable you to look for an article you like - they also
keep all back editions - you need to know what day the article appeared however
Association of Personal Injury Lawyers
Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority - an informative site with all the
rules of the scheme in a downloadable PDF file format, an online form for
completion as well as a downloadable form to print off at will in case you run

Directions are published

the site). A stimulating read for the Legal Aid enthusiast
The site set up by the Legal Services Commission to help
clients access different legal sources

Abuse Recovery UK - Another site for the male and
female survivors of childhood abuse
Survivors UK - they have been in existence for over 10 Years and

publications on the subject. The site is fast and also contains links to other
sites

celebrating its tenth anniversary as at 22/9/99. It is advertising at the time

of advice and information free of charge upon any conceivable subject which the
consumer could possible want
UK Register of Expert Witnesses - A free (if there still is such a thing these days)
register of experts. One has to register and get a password to access the
register. A search for "child abuse" produced scores of experts.
Worth a try. We used it recently when we were approaching a deadline and found
some useful experts. There is a shortage of experts with experience in child
abuse in the country.
Victim Support Victim Support is committed to providing people affected by
crime with appropriate and sufficient recognition, support and information to
help them deal with their experience, and to ensuring that their rights are
acknowledged and advanced in all aspects of criminal justice and social policy.
The Ropewalk Chambers Nottingham provide a comprehensive and
specialised, largely civil advocacy service, together with all the necessary
advice and paperwork for proceedings in courts, inquiries and tribunals
throughout the country. They are used more or less exclusively for Child Abuse
Compensation claims by several firms of solicitors. They are doing the North
Wales cases, and the North West cases.
Claire Montanaro & Co was established in 1994, and focuses on all aspects
of personal growth and development but specialises in Life balance Programmes.
In common parlance some of her work could be described as stress counselling.
Her email address is info@cmontanaro.com
Guardian Angels Amongst other issues, such as
health and the community this organisation is very concerned about child abuse.
As they say "The International Alliance of Guardian Angels supports a vast
network of agencies specialising in child protection and campaign against child
abuse and exploitation. If you have any concerns at all regarding child abuse
or a simple inquiry do not hesitate to contact us or our sister organisation
the Cyber@ngels through our e-mail address, by letter, or by phone." Their
site now hosts the biggest single directory of 'childline' style help lines
anywhere in the world to get immediate help to children in crisis.
The Independent - a great newspaper which is full of stories on child abuse
and good quality news. Their new Web Site with a great search engine was
launched on 18th October 1999. It is very modern and attractive to
view but is best on a 17" screen. This newspaper is the home of most of
Roger Dobson's articles upon child abuse. He is a journalist who writes many
sympathetic articles on the subject. Well worth a browse.
Safeline - is a voluntary association based in the UK which has been established by women who were themselves sexually abused as children. On weekday mornings, and on two evenings a week between 7 00pm and 10 00pm Please ring the helpline to confirm times; a 24hr answer phone is available with up to date information. Or write to SAFELINE, King Tom House, 39b, High Street, Warwick. CV34 4AX "
Bully Online - An amazing source of information on Bullying. It has a
link to our site included within it. There is nothing that you could
conceivably think of on the subject that isn't there. There are even case
reports of quantum assessments on "bullying" or "stress at work"
cases as we like to know them. An excellent source of reference for any lawyers
who are asked to do a case on this subject. The opening line is very telling -
"Half the population are bullied ... most only realise it when they read this"
UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) - The opening statement on the site
says "The Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) exists to promote and maintain the
profession of Psychotherapy and the highest standards in the practise of
Psychotherapy throughout the United Kingdom, for the benefit of the public. The
National Register of Psychotherapists is published annually, only therapists
who meet the highest standards and abide by its ethical standards are
included." So if you want access to a psychotherapist for your own or a
client's purpose then this site is a useful source of reference. Their
countrywide register can be purchased for £45.
BAILLI - the
new legal database which is planned to be a national source of legal material.
It has been helped to come to fruition by the Barrister Laurie Wests-Knight,
and has been inspired by the Australian model. We are way behind both of our
commonwealth cousins. This site will grow daily into a massive resource. It has
a very good search engine. Even though the database is not complete, a word
search on "child abuse" produced many hits.
Law Alert -
A FREE (is there any such thing these days) law reporting site which, after you
subscribe, emails you with head notes of daily judgments from a number of
sources. How do they make their money? To download a full transcript cost £1

Sarah Carter's Lawlinks, one of the best legal portals in
the UK, has recently been restructured (and given a new web address). Sarah is
legal librarian at the University of Kent, and the site reflects her wide
knowledge of legal sources and her particular expertise in legal sources on the
web
Law.com "Law.com/uk is the most
comprehensive, authoritative and topical legal resource available. We started
with a team of journalists and lawyers, added the most reliable and respected
sources available, put online tools at your fingertips, and developed real-time
updates, all to create the definitive website for every legal professional in
the UK." To quote the front page of the site.
Looks good and seems to have lots of links - our site amongst them.
Adoption-net is a site designed to assist those involved in adoption. To
quote "Adoption-net aims to provide a wealth of information for anyone
thinking about adopting or fostering a child or is currently going through the
process of becoming an adoptive parent or foster carer. It is our mission to
remove some of the myths and stigmas that surround modern-day adoptions and we
hope this site will encourage more people to consider themselves as having
something to offer these children."
YAWS stands for "Yet another Woolf site" and is a free
downloadable version of the Civil Procedure Rules. It is absolutely brilliant
and much better than the Lord Chancellors department. There are frames with
indexes, recent cases, a searchable index, and an automatic updating service,
which you can subscribe to so that one can be reminded each time there is an
update. The rules change so much that it is invaluable, and worth paying
attention to. The site is run by Roger Horne, a barrister from London. Thank
you Roger.
Butterworths - the well known legal publisher with a lot of free
information for lawyers. Their PI online and Halsbury Law service is very
impressive. It produced a number of quantum authorities on abuse when searched.
It also has the useful "Eureka" search facility similar to the one
used by the search engine "Jeeves". One can trial the service free of
charge for a limited period. Well worth a look.
APSAC - The
American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children - A multi disciplinarian
society in America with high ideals and much to commend it.

National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC) is a non-profit
professional membership organization dedicated to quality representation and
protection of children in the legal system. The purpose of the NACC is to
assist attorneys and other professionals in their work with children in the
legal system. At the same time, the NACC carries out a Policy Agenda designed
to improve the legal system for children. If you are an attorney, guardian ad
litem, judge, CASA volunteer, pediatrician, case worker, therapist, or
simply someone who cares about kids - the NACC is your membership association.
NACC membership supports your work and the children you care about."

those working with and caring for children and young people"

founded by a survivor. It contains a lot of useful material and assistance.

mentioned in the paper on Limitation - see the legal materials page.
Alexander Maxwell Scholarship Trust - "The Trust exists to promote legal writing
and legal research, which is does by making a series of grants. Grants may be
awarded for various purposes, to fund research, obtain equipment or meet travel
and living costs incurred during research or writing activity" - The

& Maxwell.
NAPAC - National Association for People Abused in
Childhood - "Helping people who were abused in childhood" - An
organisation which has been in existence since 1997 and was set up by Peter
Saunders. It has the backing of the NSPCC who let them use their London offices
and is in the throes of setting up a telephone helpline. There are a lot of
good materials on the site for survivors who need help with their suffering and
tools for coping with it. As at the date of this entry they say the "site
is under development".
Boarding School Survivors
- In a story in the Independent on
Sunday the headline proclaimed "Boarding school is a form of child
abuse". As the author of this site is a product of the system he took a
personal interest. There are workshops publicised as well as an extract from a
book on the subject "The Making of Them" by Nick Duffell. It is interesting
that the Police have not concentrated on the private school system in their
investigations. Whether or not there is a story waiting to be told is mere
speculation.
SIARI
[Self-Injury & Related Issues] - UK site about self-injury & related issues
(dissociation, eating disorders, childhood trauma, abuse, etc.). Research
based, with extensive input from self-injurers. Includes informational and

Stop
Abuse - this is a site run by an individual who is taking civil action
himself and feels very strongly about the subject matter. It is full of
material on the subject. There are all sorts of aspects to the site which are
worth looking at. There are a lot of useful pieces of news as well as a links
swapping facility. Well worth a look. The Web Author says " Stopping abuse
means exposing the facts. Vulnerable people in need of help are exploited to a
huge degree and society turns a blind eye. The victims are powerless to do
anything to change things because, they need the very organizations which
exploit them. Such people represent no value to society, their legal rights are
ignored and so it continues".
